Herbs for cystitis

Cystitis can respond rapidly to appropriate treatment, the key being the selection of the appropriate antimicrobials. However, many well-known antimicrobial remedies do not work very well in cystitis. It is important to use plants that are specifically active in the urinary tract.

Several plants can be used:

  • Birch is probably the most recommended. It has diuretic property, which will promote urination and thus eliminate some bacteria (or at least avoid the progression of the infection in the bladder). Furthermore, it is a potent antimicrobial herb that works well for urinary tract infections.
  • Molle is a potent antiseptic and also has healing properties. It is used in Latin America to treat urinary infections such as cystitis or urethritis. Its antiseptic effect will kill bacteria, and its anti-inflammatory property will be beneficial to reduce inflammation.
  • Dandelion can be also useful to boost the diuretic effect. It is one of the most potent diuretic plants, but is also rich in potassium. This is useful to replace the potassium, which usually leave the body with other diuretic herbs.
