Candidiasis is a bacterial infection of the gastrointestinal tract by the yeast Candida albicans. This bacteria is normally benign, and already lives in the gastrointestinal tract. It is kept under control by the immune system. It becomes a problem when it overgrows, usually when the immune defences are weakened due to another disease/infection.

In some cases, candida yeast burrows deeply into the lining of the stomach, damaging it and creating a syndrome called intestinal hyperpermeability. When this occurs, a person can suffer from new intolerances to previously harmless foods, such as dairy, eggs, corn, and gluten.

The main cause of development of chronic candidiasis (meaning you suffer from reccurent infection) is the overuse of antibiotics. They kill the healthy intestinal floral that contributes to keep candida under control.

Supplements for candidiasis
